I read an interview with Jeff Bezos some time ago.
There’s one part that I keep thinking about ever since...
When the interviewer asked Jeff what he thinks is going to change in the next 10 years, Jeff replies, “I don’t know. But people always ask me that."
Then he goes on by saying how no one ever asks him what’s NOT going to change in the future. But they should. Because that’s the only thing you can count on and it’s what he’s building his company around.
He says, “I know that 10 years from now, or 25 years from now, people will want as wide a selection of products as they can get. They’ll want to get them at the lowest price that they can get them, and they’ll want them as fast as they can.”
That’s why everything Amazon creates is in service and support of those three things.
And that’s exactly how you should be thinking about your business.
Instead of worrying about who’s going to come in and disrupt your niche… or what’s going to be the next killer app…
Realize that you can’t disrupt or digitize everything. Ultimately, people still want to touch and feel and see and experience.
Realize that you can’t disrupt or digitize everything.
In other words, the fundamentals never change.
For example, no matter how much the real estate industry has been disrupted, people still want to see the house, see the yard, and see the neighborhood… before they buy that home.
Do you want to future-proof your business? Then take a look at the core of what you do…
What is it about your During Unit that will NOT change in the future? What same things will your market want 25 years from now?
That’s your foundation.
And that’s the thing you can count on that won’t change.
