A hundred daily videos in, YouTube has paid me $0. Here's why it's still absolutely worth it, and where the real return comes from.
Good morning. It's Monday, and my Tesla is driving me to the video shoot.
And today I realized something.
I've posted 100 videos in a row. A hundred daily videos on YouTube.
You've probably seen the other videos. I posted daily for 30 days, here's what happened. Here's how much YouTube paid me.
So I'm going to give you the full behind the scenes.
Because it's one of the number one questions I get, even from people who know me.
Is it worth it?
What people are really asking is... should I do it myself?
I'll tell you unequivocally. Yes. Absolutely worth it.
And how much has YouTube paid me?
Zero dollars. So far.
When I started, I had a channel I'd put up years ago that about 60 people had found.
Now it's around 1,800 subscribers.
We went from 60 or 80 views in the first 24 hours to routinely getting 500 or 800. Some have gone over 10,000.
But here's how I look at it.
I've set this up as a daily part of my life.
It all started because I've been journaling for over 30 years.
When I turned 60 in May, I started looking back through my old journals. What was going on 10 years ago? 20? All the way back?
And it was pretty cool to see things that started as a thought in my journal... and the path of what they became.
So the daily thing became simple. Go back to journal number one and trace the last 30 years.
What was I thinking then? What's still applicable today? Whatever became of it?
Here's what I've picked up from talking to other YouTubers.
The hard part is ideation. What are you going to talk about?
Thankfully I've got 160-plus journals, kept daily for over 30 years.
A gold mine of ideas and insights.
I'm calling this my Regis Philbin era.
I read a profile of Regis once. He lived across the street from the studio where they shot Live with Regis and Kathie Lee.
He'd get dressed at home, have breakfast, walk across the street, get touched up in hair and makeup, pick up Kathie Lee from her dressing room... and at 9 o'clock exactly, they were live.
By 10 o'clock he was done.
And his whole day was about filling himself up with things to talk about in the host chat.
That's what I've set up for myself.
Breakfast. The journal's open.
And by the way, 100 videos in, we've just started journal number seven. We're not going to run out of material.
I look through and find the idea for the day.
Camera on at 9 o'clock. I talk for 8 to 12 minutes. And it's up every day at 11am.
No editing. No formatting.
I laughed when I found out the YouTube consultants have a name for this format.
The grandpa method.
Well... at 60, I'm qualified to be a grandpa. I'm not one, but I'm qualified.
And that's the idea.
I'm building a collection of daily insights from 30 years of journaling.
I don't expect people to watch every episode in order. Some do, and I'm grateful for that.
But it's set up so the right people discover it. Real experience from actually doing things in the field for over 30 years.
A curated wall of 8 to 12 minute videos, each with a headline. If you're interested in that thing, you click on it.
In the beginning people would see a video with a hundred views and think, holy cow, that seems low.
I have zero ego attached to that.
I'm doing it because I want this collection out there. It's intrinsically rewarding.
So I'm not counting on YouTube to make it worth it.
What I am doing is gathering the right audience.
A very narrow band of applied marketing wisdom, from things I've actually done.
And here's the part that matters if you're going to do something like this.
You have to have a path for how people join your world.
Every video I do ends with an invitation to join me on Friday for the 50 Minute Profit Finder. Live on Zoom at 1 o'clock.
We go through a process to find the hidden profits in your business.
And some of those people choose to join our community. The Breakthrough Blueprint... all eight Profit Activators, my life's work, together in one place.
So YouTube has paid me $0.
But every day the community grows. People who aren't in my world yet opt in at 50minuteprofitfinder.com. Some come on Friday. Some continue on.
And the monetization of that is pretty significant.
So if you've got the inkling this is something you'd like to do...
Come on in. The water's fine.
The world needs your insight and your take on things.
From one YouTuber to another... go for it.

Okay, good morning. It is Monday morning on my way to actually shoot a video, but I wanted to shoot this video as my Tesla is driving me to the video shoot area. Today, I realized I posted 100 videos in a row, 100 daily videos on YouTube. And of course, I see all these YouTube videos, you know, as you become a YouTuber, as I've become that, you see all these videos of people saying, you know, I posted daily for 30 days, here's what happened, or here's how much YouTube paid me for my thing. So I'm gonna give people the, the full behind the scenes because it's.
It's funny. It's one of the number one questions that I get even from people that know me. They're like, is it worth it? Like, I think the thing that people are wondering when they're asking that question is they're thinking about, should I do it myself and wondering what is it worth it? Like, are you gonna get monetized? Or, you know, is it going to be worth the while? And I'll tell you unequivocally that, yes, it's absolutely worth it. From a monetary standpoint, how YouTube has paid me this much. $0 so far from this. When I started out, I had a YouTube channel, but I didn't have really any.
You know, I put it up years ago, And I think 60 people had founded and subscribed. So I had virtually zero. And now I'm at, I think, 1800 subscrib. We were initially getting 60 or 80 views in 24 hours for videos. Now we're, you know, routinely getting 500, 800 in 24 hours. Some of the videos go have gone over 10,000 into the. The thousands. But what the way I look at it is I have set this up as a daily part of my life. It all started because I've been journaling for over 30 years. And when I turned 60 in May, I started in the month kind of leading up to that.
I was just looking through some of my old journals to see what was going on in my life 10 years ago, 20 years ago, and all the way back. And I thought, man, it was pretty cool to see things that started out as a thought in my journal and seeing the path of what they became. And so I thought, you know what, that would be a really good. I should, like, shoot a video and talk about that. And then I realized, man, there's so much there that could be. The daily thing is, I'll just go back to journal number one and then I'll trace the last 30 years and see what was happening 30 years ago and what is still applicable today and whatever became of the thoughts that I was having 30 years ago.
So I think going into the idea of shooting a daily video, you have to feel comfortable and confident that you'd have material like I think from talking to other YouTubers or seeing other people saying that part of the thing is the ideation process of what are you going to talk about? And that thankfully I have 160 plus journals that I've kept daily for over 30 years. So it's this gold mine of ideas and insights because that's what I've was writing in my journal is ideas and insights and things that I was learning or developing. So my daily routine, I'm calling it like my, my Regis Philbin era that I remember seeing this profile about Regis, what I used to watch Live with Regis and Kathie Lee live every morning when I first moved to Florida.
And I realized that's really what I've set up for myself. I saw this profile that Regis, excuse me, lived across the street from the studio where they shot the, where they shot live. And so he would get dressed at home, have breakfast and he would just walk literally right across the street, go into the, the hair and makeup, they'd touch him up a little bit and then he'd go pick up Kathie Lee at her dressing room and they'd walk out. And then at 9 o'clock exactly, live with Regis and Kathie Lee. And then by 10 o'clock, he was done and his whole day was about filling it up with stuff that he could talk about in the first 10 minutes in the host chat section of Live with Regis and Kathie Lee.
And so that's how I look at these. My routine is that I wake up, we come for breakfast, I have the journal and by the way, 100 videos in, we've just started journal number seven. So there's so much stuff going on in the, in the journals. We're not going to run out of material. And then I look through the journal and I see what the, I see what the idea is for the day. And then I just, we turn on the camera at 9 o'clock and I talk for, you know, 8 to 12 minutes and we are done by, you know, it's up every day at 11, 11am.
A new video. So the routine of it is very simple and that requires that there's no, there's no editing, there's no formatting to the videos. I laughed because, you know, all these YouTube consultants and people always, there's an actual name for this format that they called the grandpa method. And I thought, oh my goodness, you know, but I guess at 60, I'm qualified to be a grandpa. I'm not, but I'm qualified to be one. And that's the, that's the idea, right? Like I'm building this collection of daily insights from 30 years of journaling that if people, I don't expect that people are going to watch every single episode in order and maybe there are some people who have.
And I get comments like that, that I watch them every day and thank you for that. But what it's 100% set up so that if people discover it and that's what's happening, is the right people kind of discover value, real experience of actively doing things in the field for over 30 years, that there's wisdom in that and that when you go to my YouTube channel, there's a wonderfully curated wall of, you know, eight to 12 minute videos that all just have a headline that is if you're interested in that thing that you click on it and you, you can, you know, get some insight there.
People are primarily interested in. But what are you doing with this? Like in the beginning it was kind of odd for people to see that, you know, to see a video with a hundred views on something, they're thinking holy cow, like that's, that's seems low or whatever. And I have zero ego attached to the, the thing the was that I'm doing it because I want this collection out here and I find it very rewarding, internal, intrinsically rewarding to share this stuff and to see what's happening. So to count on YouTube monetizing me or making it worth it to make those big YouTube dollars, that's not the reason.
But what I am doing is gathering the right audience. I'm shar things in a very narrow band of applied marketing wisdom from experience of things that I've done and that's going to be valuable to the right people. And so rather than count on YouTube to provide monetization, if you're going to do something like this, you have to have a path into how do people join in your world. So if you notice, every video that I do ends with an invitation to join me on Friday for a 50 minute profit finder workshop. And we do it by Zoom live at 1 o'clock on Fridays and you know, we gather people, you know, every Friday there's people who come and attend and we go through a process to find the hidden profits in their business.
And then some of those people choose to join our community where we have, I have a whole breakthrough blueprint program that goes through all of my eight profit activators, my life's work, all together in, in one module. And we have got a wonderful community of people who are adopting that model and applying it to their business. So has YouTube paid me $0. But every day I'm growing my community because we get people who don't, who aren't currently in my world, that come and opt in at 50minuteprofitfinder.com so that list is growing. People come on Friday and some of them choose to continue on. So the, you know, the monetization of that is certainly pretty significant.
You know, going through the, the process there and growing the community. So it's worth it. I would encourage you, if you've got the inkling that this is something that you might like to do. I would say come on in, the water is fine and the world needs your insight and your take on things. So from one YouTuber to another, I'd say go for it.
Every idea that I've had, every dollar that I've made over the last 30 years has gone through my brain, through my pen, onto a piece of paper in my journal before it went out into the real world. And if I can turn people onto that activity as a driver for what to do, what to think about, what to ask yourself to draw out, what the next most valuable action is for you and how to find the most profitable things that you can install in your business, I'm all for it.
So this Friday at 1pm, I'm going to do for the first time a 50 minute profit finder workshop. And you're going to join me live on Zoom. And we're going to go through a 50 minute exercise. Bring your pen, bring a notebook or piece of paper and I'm going to guide you through a thinking process that will help you identify where the lowest hanging fruit is in your business and maybe some fruit that you didn't even know was there.
But I'm going to show you where to look for it. So it's free. It's for you. It's Friday. At 1pm this Friday. Just watch.
Just go to 50minuteprofitfinder.com and I'll get you all the details and hopefully you can join us then. Friday 1:00pm.
