Finding Clients

100 leads. 100 weeks.

Dean Jackson 3 min read

One of the most important things I’ve learned about lead generation is this:

Never judge leads one at a time.

One person is unpredictable.

They may buy tomorrow.

They may buy 18 months from now.

They may never buy at all.

That uncertainty makes it very easy to judge each lead emotionally.

Someone ready to go right now is a “great lead.”

Someone who doesn’t return your call is a “bad lead.”

But that’s not a useful way to think about it.

I like to think in cohorts of 100 leads over 100 weeks.

Here’s why.

The research shows that just over half of the people who inquire about something will buy it within 18 months.

I like to be conservative, so I extend that to 100 weeks and round it down to 50%.

That means when you gather 100 people who have voluntarily told you they’re interested in the thing you do, you can reasonably expect that 50 of them may do something over the next 100 weeks.

Now we can do some useful math.

If one new client is worth $10,000 to you, that bundle of 100 leads potentially represents $500,000 in future revenue.

That’s very different from looking at each name and wondering:

“Why haven’t they called me back?”

“What if they were only curious?”

“Are these leads any good?”

Objectively, you’re holding a valuable asset.

Subjectively, it might not feel like one yet.

That’s why I call the first 100 days the Van Allen belt.

When a spacecraft leaves Earth, it has to push through the atmosphere and the Van Allen radiation belt before reaching the effortless environment of space.

Your first cohort of leads is like that.

During those first 100 days, you’re investing money, educating people, and building relationships…but you haven’t yet accumulated enough time for the inevitable buyers to reveal themselves.

That’s the point where most people give up.

But once you make it through, something wonderful starts to happen.

Your newest leads are entering the beginning of their journey while your older leads are reaching the moment when they’re ready to act.

Now you’re not starting from zero every month.

You’re building an accumulating asset.

That’s the first phase of Profit Activator 3:

Realize what you’ve actually got.

Your goal isn’t to predict which one person will buy.

It’s to patiently position yourself for what you know a group of 100 people will inevitably do.
