I don’t know if you've noticed...
There are a lot of podcasts in the world right now.
It’s becoming the cool thing to have. But, as with anything, you’ve got to have an understanding of WHY you want one. What’s going to be the purpose of it?
Most people think a podcast is a way to generate leads.
Unfortunately, it’s a noisy market out there. You’re not gonna be able to just put your podcast up and hope for people to come. You'll have to generate leads outside of it.
That’s the bad news. The good news is...
Once you do have leads coming in, a podcast is a great lead conversion tool.
Look at it as your Profit Activator Three vehicle for educating and motivating people. An opportunity for you to communicate with them every week. On top of that, a podcast gives you a reason to email your prospects.
But here’s the thing…
Don’t expect your podcast to generate business on its own. It doesn’t work like that. And that’s what trips most people up. They usually ask me...
"How do you monetize a podcast?”
And my answer is always the same. It’s not so much about monetizing it. It's about creating an environment that lets you introduce your audience to all the things you do for money… while, at the same time, you’re adding real value to their life or business.
Take More Cheese Less Whiskers as an example…
Notice how everything about it is 100% geared to helping entrepreneurs make more money.
In fact, every single episode is specifically focused on turning this opportunity for my guests into more money for them.
Yes, I do talk about my paid services sometimes. But it’s never a blatant pitch or promotion. It’s always in the context of the conversation I’m having with the business owner.
The real opportunity for you to “monetize” comes from outside the podcast itself. From all the things you do around it.
The real opportunity for you to “monetize” comes from outside the podcast itself.
For example…
Whenever a new MCLW episode is out, I send the announcement email about it. And along with that email, I let you know that I'm doing a mastermind group... or that I'm starting a new Email Mastery case study program... or that we can help you write a 90-minute book… and so on.
In other words, you do get a chance to introduce your prospects to all the paid offers you have, all the stuff that could be helpful tools for them.
You just don’t do it within the podcast.
Your podcast is, and should be, 100% pure value. An educational and motivational tool where you’re highlighting all the ways you can help your audience.
Anyway. Over to you now.
Do you have a podcast yet?
If you do, let me know. I’d love to see what you’re doing :)
