Did I ever tell you about my journey on the path that led me to the 9-word email?
I was sitting in my evil scheme hatchery, working on an email campaign, and I thought, "What if I was a wizard? And whatever I asked would be granted?"
What that unlocked for me was a simple realization that if it were true…all I would have to do is know what I want them to do.
I started out with the idea that I'm sending one email to one single person… and getting clear on exactly what I want them to do.
That led me to the idea that the first thing I would want from the email could be as simple as asking them to open it.
I thought, what would I want them to do after they open?
It comes down to three options:
- Read the email.
- Click on the link.
- Reply.
That's it.
So simple. But based on most of the emails I get in my inbox, I don't think many of the people sending me emails have a plan.
I started out with the idea that I'm sending one email to one single person… and getting clear on exactly what I want them to do.
That allows me to focus on what I need to say to encourage that action.
I think of it like a conversation where your side of the conversation is going to actively change the path.
If I start with a simple subject line, like:
"Orlando Marketing Workshop"
If that sparks something you're interested in or curious about, you'll open the email.
The next thing I want to know is: if you're interested in the basic premise…
"Hi Dean… I'm doing a live marketing workshop in Orlando this month. We're going to spend three days applying the 8 Profit Activators to your business. Would you like to join us?"
That's it.
Nothing to click. No long letter to read.
Short. Personal. Expecting a reply.
Because I'm crystal clear on the outcome, it focuses all the attention on the question.
As you're reading the email, you ask yourself:
"Would I like to spend three days in a small group with Dean focusing on my business?"
If you know that would be a good idea, you can just reply and ask for the details so you can see if it's something you want to do.
Try it.
