Would you like a cookie?

Dean Jackson 2 min read

If I invited you into my house, sat you down in the living room, and said…

“I’m really happy you’re here. If you’re hungry or thirsty, there’s lots of stuff in the fridge. Go ahead and help yourself.”

What are the chances you’d actually get up, walk into my kitchen, open the refrigerator, and start looking around?

Almost zero.

Even though I’ve clearly given you permission, you probably wouldn’t want to impose.

But imagine instead that I went into the kitchen and came back carrying a plate of freshly baked cookies.

I walk right over and say:

“Hey, I just baked these. Would you like a cookie?”

Now it would almost be difficult not to take one.

That’s hospitality.

And it’s also one of the most important distinctions in lead conversion.

Most businesses treat their prospects like the guest sitting alone in the living room.

“If there’s anything we can help you with, please don’t hesitate to reach out.”

“Feel free to call us whenever you’re ready.”

“We’re always happy to answer any questions.”

It sounds polite.

But we’ve put all the responsibility on them.

They have to decide what they need, initiate the conversation, and risk feeling as though they’re imposing on us…or walking into a sales presentation they may not be ready for.

A better approach is to anticipate what they’re most likely to want next…and bring it to them on a plate.

If someone downloads a guide about selling their home, we know what they may be wondering:

How much could my house sell for?

What should I do to get it ready?

Could I sell without putting it on the market?

So instead of saying, “Let me know if you need anything,” we can offer them a Pinpoint Price Analysis, a Room-by-Room Review, or a look inside our Silent Market.

Something specific, prepared, and easy to accept.

The best lead conversion doesn’t feel like entering a sales process.

It feels like someone anticipated what you might want…and brought you a freshly baked cookie.

It feels like someone anticipated what you might want…and brought you a freshly baked cookie.

That’s how we want people to feel.

Not pursued.

Not pressured.

Welcome.
