Bigger pie

There’s a common myth among business owners that goes like this…

“If only I could reach more people… If only I could go global, and expand my reach… then, I’d just need to get a fraction of all potential customers and my business would flourish…”

I call this a fallacy of “The bigger pie” concept.

Because here’s the thing...

If you’re going to help all the people in the world with whatever it is that you do… you may as well start with helping all the people right where you live.

Because there’s no bigger pie out there. There’s only the pie that you make…

See, before you’re ready to go global, you first need to create a “protocol”, something that can be renowned, something only you can do…

And a major part of that is being able to get and document the results for people - locally.

You need to create an environment that’s like a laboratory.

You need to create an environment that’s like a laboratory. So you can tweak and experiment and document… until you get it just right.

You need to know what it takes to get the result for someone… What’s the best outcome you could create for that one person… before you can start looking at packaging and pricing and going global…

The pie starts with your study of 1.

Then, you try to duplicate the result for 10 more people, and do a study of 10. Next, you ramp it up to 100… and then 1000… and so on.

In other words, you can’t jump magnitudes. You have to start locally, with that one prospect.

Because if you’re thinking too big from the start… and planning to help thousands and thousands of people… but you haven’t got the actual documentation of helping one yet…

You’re marketing’s going to be weak, too. People won’t believe you because you won’t have the proof. And you'll end up convincing 100% of people 1% of the way...

Instead, start where you are. Focus on helping everyone in the 10-mile radius of your location. And work on convincing 1% of all the potential customers 100% of the way.

That’s the only “pie” that matters ;)
