Entrepreneurship

The power question

Dean Jackson 2 min read

When you want to make progress as an entrepreneur you have to adopt better mindsets…

And the very first mindset you must adopt is to think about collaboration as the winning move.

For example…

If you look at your current situation, how much of your time is spent in your business doing things you don’t like doing?

And, how many times you have an idea… and then immediately think, “Well, how do I do that?”

But here’s the thing…

“How do I do that?” is not the question you should be asking yourself. Because if you do, you’ll be stuck at where you’re currently at forever…

Instead, what you should be asking yourself is what I call the “Power Question”:

“Who do I know that could do that?”

That’s how you get entrepreneurial progress…

By removing yourself from everything that doesn’t require it to be you. And delegating and collaborating with somebody who can do a much better job… rather than trying to learn how to do everything yourself.

I’ve been pursuing this idea of removing myself from everything that doesn’t require it to be me for a long time. And when I did the math on it I realized…

My total involvement in my base business is 417 hours per year.

That’s 17 days!

So now, I have this surplus of time available I can treat like a capital asset. Those are my investible hours…

And I can go and look for the best place to allocate this capital. I can spend them on other collaborations, on joint ventures… or whatever else I want to be doing.

I have all this freedom thanks to one tiny mindset change. And that is…

Start asking yourself “Who?”...

Not “How?”...
