9-word email is great for reviving dead leads…

But you’d be surprised how well it works for outbound emails, too.

Let me show you an example…

The company who does all my postcard mailings has a division that does birthday marketing for restaurants.

At one time, they had a list of 3,000 restaurant emails. These were all cold prospects. So they decided to send an email out to those restaurants and advertise their service.

As you can imagine, it was an HTML email. Beautifully designed, and with all the bells and whistles.

They got zero response.

So I offered to help them. I said, “Let’s send out an email that just asks a simple question.”

“Ok, let’s try it,” they replied.

And so we did.

We put the name of the restaurant in the subject line. And in the body, we just said, “Do you do birthday parties?”

Guess what? We had incredible results. Over 30% response rate.

And the most common reply to that email was, “Yes, we do birthday parties. How many people are coming?”

Now we were ready to respond to that by saying, “Perfect, I’d been working with Roy’s restaurant here in Sarasota. I’m doing some birthday marketing, and I’m looking for somebody to work within Phoenix. Could you handle 5 or 6 birthday parties next month?”

See the difference?

Rather than sending out beautifully designed marketing emails, and be all about you and what you do…

When you just focus on your prospect’s benefit, or what they really want, (in our case it was restaurants filling up their tables)…

There’s no reason cold 9-word emails won’t work.

The trick is to figure out that initial, short question that’s focused on what people you’re trying to reach out to want…

And then baby-stepping along the way.

So think about it…

What would be that question you could ask new people… that would start the conversation going?
