There are three steps to a sustainable business.
You have to:
Make it up,
Make it real,
And make it recur.
That’s the basic progression of it. Making it up comes very easy to entrepreneurs (or anyone who’s a Quick Start) because your strength and love is to make things up, crack the code, and think about all the possibilities of what you could do.
“We could do A and then B... and we could do C and D too…” Everybody agrees, “yes, that’s a brilliant idea!” And sometimes, with the help of someone on your team, you might enjoy making it real and testing your idea out to show it works. But then, later that brilliant idea you made up, made real, and tested so well ends up on a back burner. You know you should be doing it. You could be doing it. But the problem is that you’re already excited about something else and have moved on to the next new thing.
Sound familiar?
But here’s the thing: Don’t feel bad about it. Because if you’re a Quick Start, the big win for you is NOT to beat yourself up until you become an Implementer. Instead, put a team in place. People who can take your ideas, make them real, and then make them recur.
Now, the great news is, just as it’s natural for you as a Quick Start to come up with ideas and make stuff up, Some people love to maintain systems. They want to follow a checklist that makes the system recur. And as long as nothing goes wrong, they know exactly what to do, they love doing it, and they’ll do it to the best of their ability, and they never get tired of it!
That’s right. As strange as it may sound to you, those people do exist. You just need to find them and surround yourself with them to support all the things you make up ;)
