Well, the secret to that lies in understanding people. Specifically, you must understand how people talk to their friends, family, coworkers, etc. Here's an example...
Say you're a personal trainer, a nutritionist, or something similar, and you're very good at what you do, meaning you deliver results.
Now, you have to realize next time your client meets with their friends, your result will probably spark some conversations they're going to have with those friends.
For instance, if you're helping people lose weight, their friends will comment, "Hey, it looks like you've lost some weight. You look great!" Or, if you're helping people gain more energy, their friends will comment, "Wow, you seem like you really have a lot of energy…"
And so on.
In fact, if your work with your clients produces visible results, rest assured that the results will be at the center of their conversations. Why? Because people notice. People notice you're losing weight; they notice your skin looks better, you have more energy, and you're more focused. Your friends notice and they're going to comment on that. And here's where you, the business owner, come in…
You can plan in advance when you understand how people talk to each other.
You can create ways to turn those conversations (or events) into an opportunity to orchestrate referrals. And you can make it easy and natural for your clients to introduce you into the conversation... You know, people often think you should have some referral incentive. There's this underlying belief that whoever refers you is doing it as a favor to you. But nothing can be further from the truth. As a society, we're wired to want to share and add value to those closest to us.
And so, all you need to do is encourage your clients when they hear someone talking about this high-probability conversation, to think about you. If they hear someone saying how great they look or how much weight they've lost… tell them all they need to do is reach out to you, and you'll send them a book, a checklist, and a report to give to their friends.
And look, those conversations are happening far more than you ever know about. But it's up to you to ensure your name pops up while they happen. If you learn how to orchestrate it the right way… I promise you that referrals will be a big source of growth.
